IELTS Band Nine Cue Card
Describe a well-known garden in your city
You should say
where it is
what it looks like
what people do there
and explain why you remember this particular garden or public place.
I’d like to tell you about a famous place in London called Hampton Court Gardens. It is located just to the West of London in a suburb called Richmond. It is a historical garden that dates back to the 16th century when it was the garden of the infamous King Henry the Eighth.
One thing I like about this garden is it is quite varied. The rose gardens are full of colour, the formal gardens are very organised and symmetrical and the lawns are lush and expansive. If it is hot, there are also many shaded walks as well as a large lake and a maze.
People come to Hampton Court Gardens for a variety of reasons. Some come to marvel at the stunning gardens, while others come to watch a concert or tour the palace itself. The garden is a popular spot for picnics and there are often food and drink stalls set up around the grounds.
I remember this particular garden because I visited it as a kid and I was amazed by its beauty and grandeur. The gardens at Hampton Court are truly breathtaking, and I have always been drawn to their serene and peaceful atmosphere. It is a place that I try to visit as often as possible and would recommend to any visitors.
